The People’s Bank of China is to issue a series of gold and silver commemorative coins for the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The series consists of 3 gold coins and 2 silver coins, all of which are the legal tender of the People’s Republic of China.
I. Design of the coins
i. obverse design
The series of gold and silver commemorative coins bear the common obverse of the national emblem of PRC, the title of PRC in Chinese and the year date, with the design of petals of flower peony as the background.
ii. reverse design
1kg gold round coin, 1/4oz gold round coin and 1kg silver round coin bear the common reverse of the combined concept designs of rocket, satellite and outer space, express train, Olympic stadium, tower cranes, gear wheel, wheat heads, DNA chain and the electronic information, the words—“the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China” in Chinese and “1949-2009” and the face value.
5oz gold round coin and 1oz gold round coin both shows, through an opening gate, the combined concept designs of city skyline, express train, flyover, bridge, the words of “the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China” in Chinese, “1949--2009” and the face value, with the design of flowers in blossom at the forefront.
II. Specifications and mintages of the coins
i. 1kg gold round coin is proof in quality, 90mm in diameter, 10000 Yuan in face value, 99.9%in fineness and contains 1kg of pure gold. The total mintage is 100 pieces.
ii. 5oz gold round coin is proof in quality, 60mm in diameter, 2000 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 5 troy ounces of pure gold. The total mintage is 600 pieces.
iii. 1/4oz gold round coin is proof in quality, 22mm in diameter, 100 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 1/4 troy ounce of pure gold. The total mintage is 60,000 pieces.
iv. 1kg silver round coin is proof in quality, 100mm in diameter, 300 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 1kg of pure silver. The total mintage is 6000 pieces.
v. 1oz silver coin is proof in quality, 40mm in diameter, 10 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 1 troy ounce of pure silver. The total mintage is 100,000 pieces.
III. The series of gold and silver commemorative coins is jointly minted by Shenzhen Guobao Mint and Shenyang Mint, and solely distributed by China Gold Coin Incorporation.
