Announcement of the People’s Bank of China

The People’s Bank of China is to issue a series of 2010Chinese Geng Yin Year (Year of the Tiger) gold and silver commemorative coins on October 22, 2009. The program consists of 15 coins, with 8 in gold and 7 in silver, all of which are the legal tender of the People’s Republic of China.

I. Designs of the Coins

i. Obverse Design

1. The following 13 coins bear the common obverse design of the national emblem of the People’s Republic of China in the center with the background of auspicious ornaments, the title of the People’s Republic of China and the year date:
1/10oz round gold coin, 1/10oz round gold coin (selective colored), 1/2oz plum-blossom shaped gold coin, 5oz rectangular gold coin, 5oz round gold coin (selectively colored),1kg plum-blossom shaped gold coin and 10 kg round gold coin

1oz round silver coin, 1oz round silver coin (selective colored), 1oz plum-blossom shaped silver coin, 5oz rectangular silver coin, 5oz silver round coin (selectively colored) and 1kg round silver coin.

2. The following 2 coins bear the same obverse design of the Drum Tower of Jiuquan, Gansu province, the title of the People’s Republic of China and the year date:

1/2oz fan-shaped gold coin and 1oz fan-shaped silver coin.

ii. Reverse Design

1.    The following 11 coins bear the common reverse of a crouching tiger with the decorative background of a tiger-head ornamental pattern and the face value.

1/10oz round gold coin, 1/2oz plum-blossom shaped gold coin, 1/2oz fan- shaped gold coin, 5oz rectangular gold coin, 1kg plum-blossom shaped gold coin, 10kg round gold coin, 1oz round silver coin, 1oz fan-shaped silver coin, 1oz plum-blossom silver coin, 1kg round silver coin and 5 oz rectangular silver coin

2. The following 4 coins bear the common reverse of a folk traditional ornamental tiger pattern, the auspicious flower ornaments (selectively colored) and the face value:

1/10oz round gold coin (selectively colored), 5oz round gold coin (selectively colored), 1oz round silver coin (selectively colored) and 5oz round silver coin (selectively colored).

II. Specifications and Mintage of the Coins:

i. 1/10oz round gold coin is proof in quality, 18mm in diameter, 50 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 1/10 troy ounce of pure gold. The total mintage is 80,000 pieces.

ii. 1oz round silver coin is proof in quality, 40mm in diameter, 10 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness, and contains 1 troy ounce of pure silver. The total mintage is 100,000 pieces.

iii. 1/10oz round gold coin (selectively colored) is proof in quality, 18mm in diameter, 50 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness, and contains 1/10 troy ounce of pure gold. The total mintage is 30,000 pieces.

iv. 1oz round silver coin (selectively colored) is proof in quality, 40mm in diameter, 10 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness, and contains 1 troy ounce of pure silver. The total mintage is 100,000 pieces.

v. 1/2oz fan-shaped gold coin is bullion in quality, 58mm in excircle radius, 39mm in incircle radius, 30 degrees in central angle, 200 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness, and contains 1/2 troy ounce of pure gold. The total mintage is 6,600 pieces.

vi. 1oz fan-shaped silver coin is bullion in quality, 85mm in excircle radius, 60mm in incircle radius, 30 degrees in central angle, 10 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness, and contains 1 troy ounce of pure silver. The total mintage is 66,000 pieces.

vii. 1/2oz plum-blossom shaped gold coin is proof in quality, 27mm in diameter of circumcircle, 200 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness, and contains 1/2 troy ounce of pure gold. The total mintage is 8,000 pieces.

viii. 1oz plum-blossom shaped silver coin is proof in quality, 40mm in diameter of circumcircle, 10 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness, and contains 1 troy ounce of pure silver. The total mintage is 60,000 pieces.

ix. 5oz rectangular gold coin is proof in quality, 64mm×40mm in dimension, 2000 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness, and contains 5 troy ounces of pure gold. The total mintage is 118 pieces.

x. 5oz rectangular silver coin is proof in quality, 80mm×50mm in dimension, 50 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness, and contains 5 troy ounces of pure silver. The total mintage is 1888 pieces.

xi. 5oz round gold coin (selectively colored) is proof in quality, 60mm in diameter, 2000 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness, and contains 5 troy ounces of pure gold. The total mintage is 1800 pieces.

xii. 5oz round silver coin (selectively colored) is proof in quality, 70mm in diameter, 50 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness, and contains 5 troy ounces of pure gold. The total mintage is 8800 pieces.

xiii. 1 kg plum-blossom shaped gold coin is proof in quality, 100mm in diameter of circumcircle,10,000 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness, and contains 1 kg of pure gold. The total mintage is 118 pieces.

xiv. 1 kg round silver coin is proof in quality, 100mm in diameter, 300 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness, and contains 1 kg of pure silver. The total mintage is 3800 pieces. 

xv. 10 kg round gold coin is proof in quality, 180mm in diameter, 100,000 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 10 kg of pure gold. The total mintage is 18 pieces.

III. The program of gold and silver commemorative coins are respectively minted by Shenzhen Guobao Mint, Shenyang Mint and Shanghai Mint, and solely distributed by China Gold Coin Incorporation.
