Announcement of the People’s Bank of China

The People’s Bank of China is to issue a series of gold and silver commemorative coins for World Expo 2010 Shanghai (series II) on April 22, 2010. The series consists of 2 gold coin and 2 silver coins, all of which are the legal tender of the People’s Republic of China.
I. Design of the coins
i. Obverse design
The series of gold and silver commemorative coins bear the common obverse of the emblem of World Expo 2010 Shanghai against the background of our common homeland--the globe(partially colored), the title of the People’s Republic of China and the year date.
ii. Reverse design
The reverse of 1/3oz and 5oz gold coin commonly features the image of China Pavilion in the World Expo 2010, the words of “World Expo 2010 Shanghai China” in Chinese and the face value.
The reverse of one of the 1oz silver coin depicts the silhouette of human, blooming flowers and the abstract design symbolizing the scientific development, the words of “World Expo 2010 Shanghai China” in Chinese and the face value; the reverse of the other 1oz silver coin depicts the silhouette of doves, blooming flowers and the abstract design symbolizing the scientific , the words of “World Expo 2010 Shanghai China” in Chinese and the face value.
II. Specifications and mintage of the coins
1/3oz gold coin is proof in quality, 23 mm in diameter, 150 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 1/3 troy ounce of pure gold. The total mintage is 60,000 pieces.
5oz gold coin is proof in quality, 60 mm in diameter, 2000 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 5 troy ounces of pure gold. The total mintage is 1000 pieces.
1oz silver coin (two pieces) is proof in quality, 40 mm in diameter, 10 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 1 troy ounce of pure silver. The total mintage for each is 80,000 pieces.
III. The series of gold and silver coin is jointly minted by Shenzhen Guobao Mint, Shenyang Mint and Shanghai Mint, and solely distributed by China Gold Coin Incorporation.
