Announcement of the People’s Bank of China

The People’s Bank of China is to issue a series of gold and silver commemorative coinsseries II for the 16th Asian Games on May 31, 2010. The series consists of a gold coin and a silver coin, both of which are the legal tender of the People’s Republic of China.

I. Design of the coins

 i. Obverse design

The series of gold and silver commemorative coins bear the common obverse of the emblem of the 16th Asian Games (partially colored), the title of the People’s Republic of China and the year date.

 ii. Reverse design

The reverse of 1/4oz gold coin features the multi-functional gymnasium of Asian Games City of Guangzhou against the background of blooming fireworks, the words of “The 16th Asian Games” in Chinese and the face value.  

The reverse of 1oz silver coin depicts the athletes playing volleyball, football and gymnastics, the words of “The 16th Asian Games” in Chinese and the face value.

II. Specifications and mintage of the coins

1/4oz gold coin is proof in quality, 22mm in diameter, 100 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 1/4 troy ounce of pure gold. The total mintage is 30,000 pieces.

1oz silver coin is proof in quality, 40 mm in diameter, 10 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 1 troy ounce of pure silver. The total mintage for each is 60,000 pieces.

III. The series of gold and silver coin is minted by Shenzhen Guobao Mint, and solely distributed by China Gold Coin Incorporation.
